ACKNOWLEDGEMENTI would like to express my immense gratitude tomy physics teacher MRs. ANJALI WASON for thehelp and guidance he provided for completing thisproject.I also thank my parents who gave their ideas andinputs in making this project. Most of all I thankour school management, for providing us thefacilities and opportunity to do this project.Lastly, I would like to thanks my classmates whohave done this project along with me. Theirsupport made this project fruitful.-MAYANK KUMAR

Electrical generators are standalone machines that provide electricity when power from the local grid is unavailable. These generators supply backup power to businesses and homes during power outages. Generators do not create electrical energy, but they convert mechanical or chemical energy into electrical energy. Based on the output, generators are classified into two types as AC generators and DC generators. In this article, we will be discussing DC generators in detail. You can check out our article on the AC generator to understand its working principle, construction and more.

In a self-excited type, the field coils are energized from the generated current within the generator. These types of generators can further be classified into a series of wounds, shunt-wound, and compound wound.

Human powered electric generators are commercially available, and have been the project of some DIY enthusiasts. Typically operated by means of pedal power, a converted bicycle trainer, or a foot pump, such generators can be practically used to charge batteries, and in some cases are designed with an integral inverter. An average "healthy human" can produce a steady 75 watts (0.1 horsepower) for a full eight hour period, while a "first class athlete" can produce approximately 298 watts (0.4 horsepower) for a similar period. At the end of which an undetermined period of rest and recovery will be required. At 298 watts the average "healthy human" becomes exhausted within 10 minutes.[21] The net electrical power that can be produced will be less, due to the efficiency of the generator. Portable radio receivers with a crank are made to reduce battery purchase requirements, see clockwork radio. During the mid 20th century, pedal powered radios were used throughout the Australian outback, to provide schooling (School of the Air), medical and other needs in remote stations and towns.

Electricity is produced in power stations using turbines and generators. A turbine converts available energy into rotation while electric generators convert rotation into electricity. Based on the electric output of the generators, they are classified into two types AC Generators and DC Generators. This article will discuss the working principle and parts of an AC generator in detail. You can visit our article on DC Generator if you are interested to learn about the working principle and characteristics of a DC generator.

Electric generators are devices that use alternating magnetic fields to create a current through a wire circuit. While full scale models can be complex and expensive to build, you can create a simple electric generator easily. All you need to do is create a simple frame to hold the wire and magnet, wind the wire, connect it to an electrical device, and glue the magnet onto a spinning shaft. This even works well to teach electromagnetic properties, or display as a science project. 2ff7e9595c
